MD of Ghana Airports Company sacked

The Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Yaw Kwakwa, has been relieved of his post. He was sacked at the instance of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, was directed by the President to give effect to the termination of Mr. Kwakwa’s appointment.

A letter signed by Mr. Asiamah dated Friday, February 4, 2022, and addressed to the Board Chairman, Ghana Airports Company Limited, said “His Excellency the President of the Republic, per letter No. OPS127/22.104 dated 31st January, 2022, has directed that the appointment of Mr. Yaw Kwakwa as the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited be terminated”.

It added “In this regard, kindly take the necessary steps to give effect to the directive. I count on your cooperation”.

No reason was assigned to his dismissal.

Yaw Kwakwa has for some time now, been at the center of controversy of a row between his office and that of MacDan Aviation, a private airline operator.

He has also been at the bad side of staff of the Ghana Airports Company Limited, with many calling for his head.
