Mfantseman NDC suspends campaign in honour of the murdered NPP MP

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Mfantseman constituency has suspended in all its election related activities following the sudden demise of the incumbent Member of Parliament for area, Hon. Ekow Quansah Hayford.

The leadership of the umbrella family in a statement issued on Friday, October 9, 2020, said they are saddened by the news of the barbaric murder of their MP, hence, the decision to suspend all its election related activities and sympathize with the deceased family and the NPP fraternity.

“We write to communicate the decision of the NDC PC for Mfantseman- Odziifo James Essoun to suspend his campaigns in the Constituency until Monday in honour of the death of the sitting NPP MP/PC and strongly calls on the Police to do everything in their power to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime and let the law deal ruthlessly with them”, the statement signed by Mfantseman constituency Chairman of the NDC, Fred Budu Hagan, in part read.

It added: “In expressing our utmost condolences to the good people of Mfantseman, we call on the NPP government of H.E. Nana Akufo Addo to arrest the poor security situation across the Country. We recall how some NDC Regional Executives of Ashanti Region as well as Hon. Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu were also attacked viciously by armed robbers on their way from campaigns few days ago as well as similar happenings in other parts of the Country.”

The Akatamansonians have therefore, urged anybody with actionable intelligence to assist the police to arrest the criminals to do so to safeguard the peace in Mfantseman.

Hon. Hayford, according to local sources, was returning from a campaign trip with some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when they were ambushed by the unidentified gunmen at Nkusum on the Mankessim-Abeadze Duadze road on Friday, October 9, 2020, around 1:00 am and in the process, shot dead.

His body has since been deposited at the Saltpond Hospital Mortuary.
