The concerns surrounding waste disposal at the Adipa Engineered Landfill Site have taken a positive turn following an intervention by the Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, culminating in a stakeholder engagement and a package of interventions for affected communities.
The development follows concerns raised by residents of Adipa and neighbouring communities over the transportation of waste from parts of Accra to the landfill site.
Residents had expressed concerns about the environmental and public-health implications of the growing waste situation and called for greater consultation and concrete measures to protect the communities hosting the facility.
The concerns subsequently received the attention of Annoh-Dompreh, who pushed for direct engagement between the affected residents, traditional authorities, local government officials and the companies involved in the waste-management operations.

In response, the Aburihene and Adontenhene of the Akuapem Traditional Council, Otubour Gyan Kwasi, convened a stakeholder meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.
The meeting brought together Annoh-Dompreh, the Chief Executive Officer of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, the Municipal Chief Executives of Akuapem South and Nsawam-Adoagyiri, traditional leaders, community representatives and other stakeholders.
The meeting provided an opportunity for residents to put their concerns directly before the leadership of the waste-management company and other authorities, with discussions focusing on the impact of the landfill activities and the support required by communities in the area.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Agyepong acknowledged the concerns raised by the affected residents and assured them of the company’s commitment to working with the communities and traditional authorities to address the issues.

He also apologised for the failure to engage the affected communities earlier and announced a package of interventions intended to respond to some of the immediate needs of the residents.
Among the commitments are the construction of a health centre, provision of a water project, community-wide fumigation and periodic health screening for residents of Adipa and surrounding communities.
Dr. Agyepong also pledged educational support for beneficiaries from the eight affected communities to pursue studies in Russia. He assured the residents that the company would continue to assess their needs and take the necessary steps to provide further assistance.
The interventions were welcomed by the traditional authorities, who called for cooperation between the company, residents and other stakeholders to ensure that the commitments are successfully implemented.
To provide oversight and ensure accountability, an 17-member committee was established to supervise the implementation of the proposed interventions. Dr. Agyepong is a member of the committee, while the Chief of Nsawam, Nana Kofi Sarh, has been authorised by the Aburihene to chair the committee.

Members of the committee pledged to work diligently and ensure that the agreed projects and interventions directly benefit the affected communities.
Annoh-Dompreh, who had earlier raised concerns about the waste situation and called for proper consultation with host communities, welcomed the outcome of the engagement. He commended Dr. Agyepong for personally meeting the residents and listening to their concerns.
The MP stressed that waste management remains an important public responsibility but argued that decisions involving the transportation and disposal of large quantities of waste should be accompanied by meaningful consultation with traditional authorities, local assemblies and residents who are directly affected.
He said the concerns raised by the people should not be viewed as opposition to waste management but as a legitimate demand for responsible practices, community engagement and protection of residents’ health and environment.

The engagement has therefore created a new framework for addressing the Adipa concerns, with the newly constituted committee expected to monitor the implementation of the commitments and maintain dialogue among the stakeholders.
