Akufo-Addo releases GH₵900,000 to premier league clubs

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has been authorized by the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to release an amount of nine hundred thousand cedis (GH₵900,000.00) to country’s premiere league clubs.

The money being the first tranche of payment is to support the eighteen premiere league clubs to pay some of their expenses in the midst of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Each premier league club is therefore expected to receive fifty thousand Cedis (GH₵50,000.00).

A statement issued by the Ministry of Youth and Sports said “this has become necessary due to the directive of Government to all premier league matches to be played behind closed doors.

“Other clubs such as Division one, National Women’s League, CAF Champion’s League Representative and CAF Confederation Cup Representative will also receive some financial support from Government.”
