Akufo-Addo extends ban on public gatherings by two weeks

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended the ban on public gatherings by two more weeks.

The extension takes effect Monday, April 27, 2020, at 1:00 am.

The President made the announcement in his eighth address to the nation on the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country on Sunday, April 26, 2020.

In announcing the update, the President said:“The strong consensus…is that the existing measures must be maintained for now until we have a firm grip on the spread of the virus. The consensus is supported by data and science and I am also very much of this view…I have by executive instrument extended by two weeks the ban on public gatherings effective tomorrow, Monday, 1:00 am, April 27, 2020.”

Ghana’s case count of the coronavirus has shot up to 1,550.This comes after 271 more persons tested positive for the virus.

Additional 21 persons infected with the COVID-19 virus have recovered.Total recoveries in Ghana stands at 155.

Meanwhile, the number of fatalities is swelling up as one more person has died bringing the total deaths to 11.
