A/R: Two arrested over Aboabo Station fire outbreak

The Manhyia Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region has nabbed two persons in relation to a fire incident at Aboabo station in Kumasi.

The two; Kofi Gyimah an electric welder and Paul Kwasi Kwakye shop owner aged between 37 and 51 respectively are suspected to be responsible for the outbreak.

The two were put behind bars to assist the police in their investigations.

The electric welder was said to have been contracted by the shop owner to work at his shop on Sunday morning and while in the process fire started from the shop and spread through the building which houses other shops.

Several shops situated at a commercial storey building at Aboabo Station in Kumasi were ravaged by an inferno at Sunday dawn, January 10, 2021

The building was providing space for more than 100 shops and is said to be one of the busiest zones in the area where plastic materials and other assorted consumables were sold.

Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, D. O III Ackah Desmond told journalists that the building will be pulled down after an assessment is conducted as part of their investigations.
