Policeman stabbed to death; his assailant shot dead

A Police officer, General Sergeant Bright Annobil, of Berekum Station was on Saturday, January 15, 2022, stabbed to death by Yaw Peprah, a suspect in a case being investigated by the Police.

The suspect was later killed, a statement released by the Police has said.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations have established that Yaw Peprah, the suspect who is an ex-convict, had been invited to the Berekum Police Station to assist with investigations into a case involving him that had been reported to the Police.

He was reported to have voluntarily accompanied the late Police officer to the Police Station.

On arrival at the vicinity of the Police Station, the suspect, unexpectedly turned on the Police Sergeant and stabbed him severely on the neck and other parts of the body and escaped.

The officer was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital for treatment but died shortly after admission.

The Police say a special manhunt exercise was initiated on the night of the same Saturday, January 15, 2022, by the Bono Regional Police Command, to arrest the suspect.

“During the course of the arrest, the suspect again attempted to attack the arresting officers but was shot and killed in the process”, the Police statement released on Sunday, January 16, 2022, in part read.

According to the Police, the family of the deceased officer has been duly informed of the tragic incident, with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akufo Dampare, also spoken to the family and assured them of the support of the Police Administration during their time of grief.

That notwithstanding, a delegation from the Police Headquarters, led by COP Christian Tetteh Yuhonu, Director-General/Administration, are visiting the Region to commiserate with the family and Personnel of the command and provide them with all the support they need, including the services of clinical psychologists among others.
