Five immigration officers interdicted for aiding illegal entry into Ghana

Five officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) have been interdicted for allegedly aiding illegal entries of some foreign nationals into Ghana through unapproved routes on the Ghana-Togo border.

All the five were stationed at the Aflao Sector Command in Ketu South District of the Volta Region.

They are Asst. Inspector Isaac Ahiafor Agbenyega, Asst. Inspector Sarah Adubea, ICO Juliana Anning, ICO Jennifer Owusu and R.O Joyce Nketia were interdicted on Thursday, 9 July 2020 for engaging in an act which constitutes an offence under Section 52(1) of the Ghana Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573).

According to a statement from the GIS, their actions are not only in contravention of the Ghana Immigration Act 2000 but also amounts to a breach of the President’s directives on border closure to curb cross border spread of the deadly Covid-19.

While on interdiction, the officers are entitled two thirds (2/3) of their salaries; the statement added.
