A group of five suspected to armed robbers have been arrested at Buipe in the Savannah Region following a robbery in Tamale. The five robbery suspects snatched a Toyota Camry salon car from its owner at a residential area in Tamale and bolted away.
According to a Police message, the syndicate after snatching the vehicle and some other items from its owner on Sunday, January 23, 2022, fled towards Buipe direction.
This was after they had received information about the car hijacking where they also relayed same information across their various check points to be on the lookout.
“The Buipe Highway Patrol Team on duty at Sawaba Police checkpoint on Buipe – Tamale highway intercepted and arrested occupants of two vehicles with registration number AS 8445-19 AND GX 6923-20”, the Police message in part read.
The arrest was in connection to the crime with the arrested car snatching syndicate being sent to the Buipe Police Station.
Among the five arrested were Ibrahim Issah, 27, a contractor from Accra, Mohammed Mustapha who was in military uniform, aged 23, and resides in Burma Camp, Vivor Christopher, 27, a mobile phone repairer, Benjamin Ajyei, 23, a mobile money vendor and Seyram Addo, 29, a blumber who resides in Danfa/Madina.
A search on them led to the retrieval of a G3 Riffle and one Falcon pistol loaded with 9mm ammunition, 13 assorted mobile phones, a wallet containing a bunch of keys together with two handcuffs keys, two Voter’s ID Cards and a cash amounting to GH₵21.20p.
According to the Police, some military uniforms, Police Ballistic helmet and Police uniforms were also found in the Toyota Camry Spider with registration number GX 6923-20.
They Police say the items were retained whiles the suspects were detained. The suspects were later identified by the robbery victim, Adam Abdul-Gafaru. He also identified one of the vehicles the suspects were using as his which they took from him at gunpoint and some other items at his residence at Banvim-Jonshegu, a suburb of Tamale.
Following instruction from the Northern Regional Police Commander, Compol/Mr. Timothy Bonga, the suspects, together with the exhibits, were handed over to the men and they escorted them to the Regional Police Headquarters, Tamale where the incident occurred.
