Election 2020: Every vote will count – Mahama assures of using legitimate means to overturn verdict

The Presidential Candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has rejected the outcome of the 2020 Presidential poll that declared the Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President-elect.

He said he together with the NDC will not accept a flawed election except a declaration of the legitimate results that points to an NDC parliamentary majority.

He described the polls as “fictionalized” and assured that they will harness all the options available to them to ensure that “every vote counts”.

“The sacred verdict of the people must be respected, it must be protected. It has been my pledge throughout my time of service as a representative to the good people of Ghana to do exactly that.

“And that is why I stand before you tonight unwilling to accept the fictionalized result of a flawed election,” Mr. Mahama said at a press conference on Thursday evening.

President Akufo-Addo won the presidential with 6,730,587 (51.302%) of the vote.

Mr. Mahama came second with 6,213,182 votes representing 47.359%, according to the Electoral Commission.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has announced a 15-member transition team that will superintend the transfer of power from his past administration to the new one set to begin on January 7, 2021.
