Four persons who are in Police custody at Asamankese in the Eastern Region have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
They were part of ten inmates who samples were taken by the West Akyem Municipal Health Directorate to the Noguchi Memorial Center for Medical Research for testing.
The testing was done at the instance of the Police.
The Municipal Health Director, Dr. Samuel Boateng Agyemang, commenting on the issue, said the four have been isolated and receiving treatment.
The Easter Region has in recent times seen a sharp increase in the number of positive cases of the coronavirus as figures released by the Ghana Health Service on Sunday, June 14, 2020, stood at 235 from a 214 recorded on Friday, June 12, 2020.
Death toll stands at three (3).
So far, eighteen (18) out of the thirty-three (33) districts and municipal assemblies in the region have recorded cases of coronavirus with New Juaben South, Kwahu West and Akuapem North reported to be the hotspot areas of the virus.
Ghana’s COVID-19 confirmed cases of COVID-19 currently stands at 11,964 with 4,258 recoveries and 54 deaths. Active cases of the virus stands at 7,652.
