The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had denied media reports that its parliamentary candidate for Agona West constituency, Paul Ofori-Amoah, has been arrested and detained at the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command.
A cross section of the Ghanaian media had reported that Mr. Ofori-Amoah was arrested and detained together with some four armed men who were alleged contacted to kill the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison.
Hon. Mamle Morrison is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Agona West.
Sources say Mr. Ofori-Amoah was arrested by the Police when the gang of four mentioned his name as their host during police interrogation.
In a statement issued by the Communications Officer of the NDC, Agona West Constituency, Abdul-Wahab Africa Zion, on Sunday, October 18, 2020, the party urged the general public to treat such media reports with the contempt that it deserves since there is no iota of truth in those reports.
“We wish to clarify for the avoidance of doubt that, there’s been no such detention or arrest and that our teeming supporters, sympathizers and followers should treat the fake news with the contempt that it deserves”, the statement in part read.
The umbrella family, however, accused the NPP and its MP for the area, Hon. Mamle Morrison for being behind the fake news.
“We are reliably aware this is coming from the quarters of the failed Agona West NPP MP, Cynthia Morrison, trying desperately to court public sympathy, sensing imminent defeat”.
The party said it is focused on winning both Parliamentary and Presidential elections and won’t therefore, be distracted by such “jokes”.
They served a caution note to editors of the media outlets, especially, the online portals, to retract the story and apologize for publishing the “fake news” or risk being sued.
