The Government acting through the Ministry of Finance has approved a payment of 8% non-basic salary allowance to all members of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
The approval follows months of tensed relationship between the employer (Government of Ghana) and members of the GRNMA.
The nurses and midwives at some point in time, laid down their tools in protest of what they termed unfair treatment by the employer. The protest was to press home their demand.
A letter signed by a deputy Minister of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen, dated October 8, 2020, authorizing payment of the allowance increase has been sent to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department to that effect.
Implementation date of the approved allowance on the 2020 basis salary to all members of the GRNMA is effective January 1, 2020.
However, payment is to commence in October 2020, according to the letter.
“At the on-going negotiations between Government and the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association, both parties came to a consensus ad idem on the payment of non-basic allowance to members of the Association, as they work assiduously towards conclusion of the negotiations. Consequently, approval is, hereby, given for the payment of a non-basic allowance of eight percent (8%) to all members of the GRNMA”, the letter addressed to the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department in part read.
