Diabetes, hypertension underlying conditions of COVID-19 related deaths – Akufo-Addo reveals

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has revealed the two main underlying health conditions that are associated with almost all the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) related deaths.

These health conditions are diabetes and hypertension.

The risk factor for these two diseases, he noted, are being overweight, eating refined foods, too much salt and sugar in meals, inadequate physical exercise, excessive alcohol intake and smoking.

In his 10th update to the nation on Sunday, May 31, 2020, over measures taken against the spread of the novel coronavirus, President Akufo-Addo, said “it is thus crucial that we improve our fitness levels, and adopt healthy eating practices that incorporate our local food stuffs, which boost our immune systems. Persons with these diseases must take extra precautions, and take their treatment seriously”.
