Some allied health professionals have cautioned the government to swiftly act in addressing concerns over their conditions of service or risk incurring their wrath since they aren’t ready to back down with their demands.
The allied health professionals made up of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), the Ghana Physicians Assistants Association and the Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anaesthetists, have in effect, threatened to withdraw their services nationwide.
“The employer (Government of Ghana) is hereby notified that Nurses, Physician Assistants and Certified Registered Anaesthetists will withdraw their services from Monday, September 21, 2020, if they (Government of Ghana) fail to address the concerns raised by the GRNMA team”, a statement jointly signed and issued in Accra on September 17, 2020, by the President of the GRNMA, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, and the President of Ghana Physicians Assistants Association, Emmanuel Yaw Appiah, said.
The statement in part further noted that “All Nurses, Midwives, Physicians Assistants (Pas) and Certified Registered Anaesthetists (CRAs) in all public institutions are directed to withdraw their services from 8:00am on Monday, September 21, 2020”.
The allied health professionals have for some time now, been at the negotiation table with the government over improved conditions of service.
Despite the back and forth engagements, the parties have not been able to find a common ground, with the allied health professionals, believing that the best option to press home their demand is to with their services.
